Rolando Del Maestro, William Feindel Professor Emeritus in Neuro-Oncology, was received the Ordine della Stella d’Italia nel grado di cavaliere (Order of the Star of Italy in the Rank of Knight) at a ceremony on April 29th at the home of the Italian Ambassador to Canada, Alessandro Cattaneo and his wife Mrs. Laura Locatelli in Gatineau.
Attended by many special guests – including Quebec Senator The Honourable Tony Loffreda and Dominique Bérubé, Vice-President, McGill Research and Innovation, representing the university – the presentation ceremony was followed by a formal dinner hosted by the ambassador and his wife.
“This award allowed me to reflect on the great opportunity Canada has given me, a poor Italian immigrant kid whose family came here after the war,” says Dr. Del Maestro. “It is a recognition of the many contributions that Pam and I have both made to the care of brain tumour patients. Our lives have indeed been blessed – we have prospered, and the best part may be still to come.”
Congratulations, Dr. Del Maestro!
