During this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the Montreal General Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre (MGH-MUHC) continues to fulfil its mandate to serve its community and the province of Quebec as a Level 1 Trauma Center. Assessing and managing COVID-positive patients, suspected-COVID-19 patients and complex polytrauma patients have added an additional complexity and challenge to the current infrastructure and facilities of the MGH Emergency Department (ED).
In response to this challenge, a collaborative effort was initiated to create a Resuscitation Tent alongside the current Trauma Bay in the Emergency Department at the MGH. This will allow additional capacity for the Trauma Surgery and ED teams to assess and manage complex polytrauma patients and multiple casualty scenarios while taking the necessary precautions for suspected COVID-positive patients.
The tent is equipped with all the necessary resuscitation equipment (with portable X-ray capability) with COVID precautions to respond to critical patients arriving to the MGH ED.
The Resuscitation Tent can be accessed through the ED at the Ambulance Entrance.
We would like to thank the multiple teams involved in this initiative, including the Trauma Program, Emergency Department, Nursing, Infection Control, Technical Services, Biomedical, Multimedia, Housekeeping and the McGill Simulation Center.
