This year’s Osler Awards for Outstanding Teaching in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences were bestowed upon Frédéric Côté, MD, Faculty Lecturer in General Surgery, Gatineau surgical site director and TCP course director at Campus Outaouais, and Andrea Blotsky, MDCM, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Montreal campus and attending physician at St. Mary’s Hospital Center. A worthy recipient from each campus is chosen by senior medical students for their outstanding contribution to their medical education. The awards were presented as part of the Spring Convocation ceremony “A” on May 27.
At Campus Outaouais, Dr. Côté was recognized for his outstanding surgical teaching and leadership. A general surgeon at CISSS de l’Outaouais since 2008 and TCP director since 2019, Dr. Côté is deeply involved in both patient care and education. A student praised his “remarkable understanding of surgical pathophysiology,” adding that working with him was a “truly exceptional learning experience.”
In Montreal, the MDCM Class of 2025 selected Dr. Blotsky, known for her commitment to clinical excellence and learner-centered teaching. As TCP course director in Internal Medicine and Clinical Methods 1 co-director, she plays a vital role in preparing students for clinical practice. Students described her as “an incredible teacher” whose passion for medicine is “utterly contagious.” One noted, “She models deep clinical knowledge and selfless empathy, and still makes time to teach despite her demanding schedule.”
Both educators exemplify the spirit of the Osler Award—an unwavering dedication to student growth, clinical excellence and compassionate teaching.
