Sixty-eight McGill researchers – including 22 from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) – have received grants through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), for a total federal investment of $8.8 million.
On September 13, the Government of Canada announced that $123.1 million in federal research funding has been awarded through 503 Insight Grants and 590 Insight Development Grants to researchers working in social sciences and humanities disciplines at institutions across Canada.
McGill was awarded 36 Insight Grants (involving 19 FMHS researchers) for a total of $6.7 million and 32 Insight Development Grants (involving three FMHS researchers) for a total of $2.1 million. These grants are designated for social sciences and humanities research that builds knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world. McGill researchers will also contribute to projects led by other institutions in Quebec and across Canada.
The recipients were selected based on the excellence of their research proposals, and their potential to make significant contributions to their respective fields. In the FMHS, the funding will help advance research on a wide range of topics related to individuals and society including pedagogical studies about trilingualism in school-aged children in Quebec and projects focused on reducing harassment in healthcare settings.
Congratulations to our FMHS recipients!
