McGill postdoctoral and doctoral students earn Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships and Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships  


Twenty McGill postdoctoral and doctoral students have received important funding from the Government of Canada. Four have received Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships, including one from the FMHS, while sixteen have earned Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships – nine from the the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS). The Banting program is worth up to $70,000 annually for two years. The Vanier program awards doctoral students up to $50,000 per year for three years.

‘Advancing knowledge for the benefit of all’ 


Across Canada, 166 doctoral students received Vanier scholarships and 70 researchers received Banting fellowships. 


The programs are funded by the Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. 


“Congratulations to the 2024 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships recipients,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, in announcing the winners May 28. “Their dedication to advancing knowledge for the benefit of all is truly impressive and their hard work will help find solutions that have the potential to make the world a better place and drive Canadian prosperity.”
