As a pivotal organization within Verdun, the Forum économique de Verdun pays tribute to hundreds of its citizens each year, for their participation in local development projects and community life. Drs. Mimi Israël and Serge Beaulieu, who received “Coup de chapeau verdunois” awards for their dedication as first-line physicians, are certainly deserving of this “hats off” commendation.
An Associate Professor and Chair of Psychiatry at McGill University, as well as Psychiatrist-in-Chief of the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, Dr. Mimi Israël has dedicated her career to the study of eating and mood disorders, crisis intervention, emergency psychiatry, and the organization and delivery of mental health services. Among the many capacities in which she serves within the local community, she is the spécialiste répondant en psychiatrie for the Centres de santé et de services sociaux du Sud-Ouest-Verdun. Over the years, Dr. Israël has garnered four McGill University teaching awards, as well as other high-profile prizes, most recently the prestigious 2013 Prix Reconnaissance de carrière Persillier-Lachapelle from the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services.
An Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Member of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Dr. Serge Beaulieu is renowned for advancing knowledge in bipolar disorders and major depression. He is also Medical Chief of the Bipolar Disorders Program and the Mood, Anxiety and Impulsivity Disorders Program at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. Among the many honours he has received throughout his career, he was awarded the Douglas Utting Prize from the Canadian Psychiatric Association in 2004 and designated as a “Médecin-clinicien-enseignant” by the Quebec Medical Association in 2009.
The 2013 “Coup de chapeau verdunois” awards were handed out by Roger Cadieux, President of the Forum économique de Verdun, during a recognition ceremony on the evening of November 27, 2013.
