Dr. Alice Benjamin needs no introduction. Pillar of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Royal Victoria Hospital since 1979, she recently received the prestigious President’s Award from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC).
The award is given to a SOGC member for outstanding contributions and commitment to women’s health and ongoing support to the specialty and the Society. It was presented during the Society’s Annual Clinical and Scientific Conference, held between June 22nd and June 25th.
“It was an honour to be the recipient of the SOGC President’s Award as I find myself surrounded by others more deserving. The support of McGill University, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and the SOGC has been unwavering throughout the years. It has been a blessing to have received the best education at McGill, work alongside brilliant colleagues and mentors from all specialties at the MUHC, and contribute to my discipline. The opportunity to train students and residents, who continue to stimulate and sustain me, has been a privilege,” says Dr. Benjamin, who is also an Associate Professor at McGill’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
“More importantly, I am grateful to my patients and the community, who encouraged and supported me all of these years. Lastly, to share our knowledge with our colleagues in developing countries, towards the improvement of maternal and child health, within the scope of the new Global Maternal and Child Health Fund at McGill University, is most gratifying.”
From recognition to recognition
Brilliant maternal fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Benjamin’s dedication and hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“Dr. Alice Benjamin has been a valuable member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Amongst her many recognitions figure the Order of Quebec as well as the Order of Canada. A tireless obstetrician and dedicated teacher, she has taught many trainees for over 40 years. It is of no surprise that our national society, the SOGC, has chosen her to receive the President’s Award 2021. The Department is proud of her and we congratulate our ‘Dr. B’,” said Dr. Togas Tulandi, Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MUHC and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill.
