Indigenous health, Faculty’s new name and more.
At the December 5, 2019 Faculty Council meeting, several priority initiatives were shared related to Indigenous health, French proficiency in the clinical environment, a McGill Cancer Institute and student-led Physical Therapy MD workshops, among others. Importantly, the results of the recent Faculty of Medicine renaming poll were revealed. Based on the outcome, the Faculty is moving forward with next steps to officially change the name to the McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. A total of 1,036 responses were received, with 81% in favour of the new name. Next steps include:
- Submission of formal request to McGill’s Academic Policy Committee (Feb. 13)
- Approval by McGill Senate (Feb. 19)
- Approval by McGill’s Board of Governors (April 23)
