Dear members of the McGill community:

The nearly 200 international flags that currently line Sherbrooke Street as part of “La Balade pour la Paix” are a perfect symbol for a university and a city that celebrate and embrace diversity. More than 45,000 people study and work on our downtown and Macdonald campuses. You come to McGill from across Quebec, Canada and the world. I would like to welcome all of you to an academic year that is sure to be filled with great ideas, exciting projects and boundless energy. I look forward to your contributions in making our university a place of learning, discovery and innovation, where different views and ideas are shared and debated in an environment of trust and respect.

As we gear up for the fall semester, I am encouraging everyone to read our new Strategic Academic Plan. I would love to hear your ideas and suggestions for how we can continue to make McGill a leading example of an open, global and purposeful university where teaching and research reflect, and change, the world. You can reach me at suzanne.fortier@mcgill.ca.

I hope you had a fun and relaxing summer. I look forward to our working together as a community, as we continue to advance McGill’s missions of teaching, research and service. Welcome back!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Fortier

Principal and Vice-Chancellor
