In a July 24th letter to the Montreal Gazette, Dr. John Bray, Assistant Professor Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University, raises the important issue of offering the HPV vaccine to boys. The vaccine is currently available freely to girls through school vaccination programs, however while there is evidence that the vaccine is equally effective among males 9-26 years old, it is only available at the moment at a cost. Dr. Bray brings forth the fact that Alberta, Prince Edward Island and Australia have begun free HPV vaccination programs for boys and suggests that Quebec follow suit.
