A formal Student Exchange Agreement is in place between McGill and Imperial College London to promote student exchanges. As part of this Agreement, Imperial College will select a few outstanding 4th year Undergraduate Medical Students for travel to McGill in early 2013. Medical students at Imperial College are enrolled in a six-year program. In their 4th year, they study toward a “Medicine BSc” degree, which involves a research project. Students are encouraged to conduct their research project abroad and McGill is one of their available destinations.

Typically, Imperial College Medicine BSc research projects last 10-12 weeks and occur between February and May. Visiting students from Imperial College are provided with a stipend to cover their cost of living in Montreal; their travel expenses are also covered, so they are of no cost to the McGill laboratories that will host them.

Current student exchanges between McGill and Imperial College are focused on Neuroscience research. McGill faculty members interested in offering a Neuroscience research training opportunity to visiting Imperial College students in 2013 are requested to provide a brief (typically half a page) research project outline by November 30, 2012. These project outlines will allow visiting Imperial College students to identify prospective supervisors with whom they will discuss research opportunities in further detail.

Research project descriptions, as well as questions regarding this exchange program, should be directed to Dr. Stefano Stifani (stefano.stifani@mcgill.ca), at the Montreal Neurological Institute, who is coordinating the exchanges with Imperial College.
