The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Yves Bolduc and Outremont MNA and Minister of Finance, Raymond Bachand met with the media and the community of St. Mary to announce that expansion work will be carried out at SMHC. This project, valued at $38.5 million, involves the construction of two additional floors to Block D.
“We are very happy to receive this funding and begin the construction of the two floors to our west wing. This is an important part of our overall infrastructure renenwal process and will enhance our ability to work more effectively with our health care network partners to provide patients with seamless, high quality standards of care,” said Dr. Arvind Joshi, Director General and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital Center.
Once completed, this work will offer private and semi-private rooms throughout the hospital. “These new rooms will respect the latest in clinical design. This means more privacy and preservation of confidentiality for our patients. Additionally, since almost 60% of our rooms will be private, this will help to reduce nosocomial infections and create a more ergonomic work environment for our staff,” explained Dr. Joshi.
“The St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation also participated in funding this great initiative and we are very grateful to all our donors for their support,” said Dr. Joshi. The Ministers also announced the enhancement of the annual operating budget of the Family Medicine Unit (FMU) of St. Mary’s Hospital by $200,000.
