The Neuro welcomes Yves Barde, Professor of Neurobiology at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel who will be visiting the Neuro on Sept 7, 2012 and will give a talk entitled “Neurotrophin signaling: PNS versus CNS”.

Dr. Barde is an extraordinary developmental neurobiologist well known for his work in the neurotrophin field, ranging from the identification of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) to many studies that have defined the in vivo properties of the neurotrophin family and their receptors.   Recently, he has pioneered the development of techniques that  allow ES cells to be converted in vitro into neuronal progenitors that differentiate into homogeneous CNS neurons. He is now using this system to dissect mechanisms of neurogenesis, differentiation and survival of CNS neurons and will speak on this topic.
