The scientific literature on schizophrenia is quite impressive. The number of articles in PubMed, one major medical database, is 84,562 as of August 2009 and the pace of publication is accelerating almost exponentially. Yet, it is not clear whether this publication volume reflects a commensurate enrichment in our knowledge. Indeed, beyond a few well established facts, it is hard to determine which results represent true findings.
