Dear Colleagues,

As part of our objective to build on the Faculty’s governance structure, we have established a Faculty Council (FC), with guidance from McGill’s Secretariat, based on FCs in the University’s other faculties.

The purpose of the FC is to provide a collegial setting for discussion of governance, strategic direction and general management, as well as for advising and decision-making, where appropriate, on matters relating to our tripartite mission. It includes broad representation from the Faculty. Both the FC’s Terms of Reference and membership are at the links below. Members were nominated by the Faculty’s schools, departments and societies/associations according to the processes each currently uses for such purposes.

The FC will meet four times each year. It is important to note that FC meetings are open to all faculty members, including students and residents, not only FC members. While FC members will have voting rights and priority during discussions, all in attendance will be welcome to participate. Additionally, because each FC meeting will include an open discussion or “Town Hall” segment, they replace our regularly scheduled Town Hall meetings. Ad hoc Town Hall meetings may still be convened, as needed.

Our first FC meeting takes place on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the McIntyre Building, the agenda of which is at the link below. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you for confirming your attendance at med-events.med@mcgill.ca.
