As part of our Spring Convocation 2025 coverage, we asked graduates from our six Schools to share their experiences of completing a degree in McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Here, we meet Class of 2025 member Melissa-Rosina Pasqua, MD, Assistant Professor, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine. Melissa-Rosina completed her PhD in Experimental Medicine and received her degree at the Spring Convocation Ceremony on May 27. Congratulations Melissa-Rosina!

What did you love most about studying at McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences?  

I loved the first class research and amazing opportunities provided by the program. I had an amazing experience during my PhD that changed the trajectory of my career.

  

Please share a particularly proud or challenging moment from your degree?  

My publication in Nature Medicine this year!

 

Your fave eatery near McGill? 

I was rarely at the main campus, mostly at the Glen site, but I live in the neighbourhood and love Cafe Aunja.

 

A song that defines the past few years as a student at McGill?  

” Almost There” from the movie Princess & the Frog. 

 

Any shoutouts?  

I would love to give acknowledgement to my supervisor Professor Ahmad Haidar, my co-supervisor Dr Michael Tsoukas, and the whole McGill Diabetes Technology Lab.

 

Top tip for incoming students in your program?  

Focus on what you would like for the future. This is also an important opportunity to make a difference in your field. Take the chance!

Clinician-scientist at the RI MUHC (note I started my PhD during my residency in Endocrinology & Metabolism).
