As part of our Spring Convocation 2025 coverage, we asked graduates from our six Schools to share their experiences of completing a degree in McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Here, we meet Class of 2025 member Meagan Mooney from the Ingram School of Nursing. Meagan completed her Master of Science (Applied) in Advanced Nursing and received her degree at the Spring Convocation Ceremony on May 27. Congratulations Meagan!

If you could change one thing in the world to make it better, what would you choose?
I wish everyone had access to primary healthcare and prevention medicine.
Please share a particularly proud or challenging moment from your degree?
I began the program in fall of 2020, so working bedside full time (and often working overtime) during a global pandemic while attending Zoom classes was certainly a challenge. I feel that my course work offered a welcome escape from everything that was happening in the world.
A song that defines the past few years as a student at McGill?
“Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield
Any shoutouts?
Huge thank you to Professors Guillaume Fontaine and Christine Maheu for their guidance and support during my master’s project. Thanks to librarian Sabina Calleja for all her valuable input on my search strategy. And thank you to my friend Caroline Tinazvo; I am so thankful for you!
Top tip for incoming students in your program?
Remember to make new friends and have fun!
What’s next for you?
After graduation I will not be going far – I am continuing my education by pursuing a doctoral degree here at McGill under the supervision of Professor Fontaine. My project will look to harness implementation science to improve access to gender-appropriate and trauma-informed care in organizations providing harm reduction and STBBI testing and treatment in Montreal. I am also working as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Professor Fontaine’s RISE3 lab.
