McGill Medicine and Dentistry students held their annual talent show, Medical Idolon May 21  at Club Soda. The event featured a variety of acts by 1st year medical and dentistry students as well as professors.

Each year, students select a community organization to which they donate all proceeds from the show, typically a cause related to children. This year, the students chose La Maison bleue, a foundation that offers perinatal services to mothers-to-be and their families living in the neighbourhoods of Cote-des-Neiges and Parc extension.

“We chose La Maison bleue because it is a local organization that directly impacts the lives of pregnant women and their families living in underprivileged circumstances,” says Cassandre Têtu, a McGill first year medical student and one of the show’s organizers. “La Maison bleue uses a multidisciplinary approach that creates synergy between the various health professionals working in the two houses, one in Côte-des-Neiges and the other in Parc-Extension.”

The performances were mainly musical, with bands, duos and solos that were playing guitar, violin, piano and singing. There was also a dance number and a couple of satirical videos featuring Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education, Dr. Robert Primavesi and Dr. Sandra Miller as well as a video shedding light on la Maison Bleue.

The event was attended by 250 people and raised approximately 4000$ for La Maison Bleue.
