On Monday, October 2 Dr. Rob Whitley, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill’s Faculty of Medicine had the opportunity to present the results of his ongoing study on media coverage of mental illness to over 60 journalists from national and local media at Bell Media headquarters in Montreal.
The event was co-organized by Bell Media and the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec. In addition to his presentation Dr. Whitley also participated in a panel session with renowned Globe and Mail Health Reporter Andre Picard as well as popular Quebec radio hosts from CJAD and iHeart radio.
“My conclusion is that the media is hungry for positive mental health news and appreciates being fed information that can help them report mental illness sensitively and accurately,” notes Dr. Whitley.
