Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to follow up on an email you should have received from the McGill Centraide campaign. This University-wide fundraising effort aims to raise $425,000 for Centraide of Greater Montreal this year. Centraide assists over 350 community organizations and projects in Montreal, in Laval and on the South Shore. Need is especially acute this year.
Together over the years, the McGill community has demonstrated our steadfast commitment to making a difference for our children, our elders and our neighbourhoods across Montreal.
Why Support Centraide?
Poverty and social exclusion are daily realities for about one in six people and about one in five children in Greater Montreal. Those affected confront questions such as the following:
- How do you choose between rent and food?
- How do you concentrate in school with an empty stomach?
Every dollar donated makes a difference. For example, a donation of $260 will help a child from a disadvantaged background spend two weeks at a summer camp.
This is where we, the McGill community, can make a difference. The link below lets you make a gift through a one-time credit card donation or payroll deductions – the most sustainable way to give and the means by which I have made regular donations to Centraide for several years now.
We invite you to consider whether we can work together to increase the participation of the Faculty during the campaign and make a difference for many Montrealers who depend on the assistance of Centraide-supported agencies.
Please, take a moment to make a gift. Consider what you might spend on a coffee and ask yourself if you can afford to make a donation in that amount every two weeks over the course of the year.

Thanks to everyone who has already made a donation to the campaign.
Best wishes,
David Eidelman, MDCM
Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) Dean of the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences
