Maclean’s annual ranking places McGill in first position among medical-doctoral universities
Arts2011Maclean’s has ranked McGill University as the top university in Canada among institutions offering medical-doctoral programs. This is the 9th consecutive year that the magazine has placed McGill as the top institution in that category in its annual issue devoted to Canada universities.

“We are delighted by this news, which reflects the hard work, the dedication and the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students,” said Prof. Suzanne Fortier, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University.

“We must remain vigilant however, as the race for top talent is a global one,” Prof. Fortier added. “We want McGill – and Canadian universities – to remain magnets for the top professors and top students. We must therefore reaffirm – as a city, as a province and as a nation – the importance of higher education for the well-being of our society and invest in our universities accordingly so we can continue to fulfill our missions of teaching, research and service to the community.”

Earlier this year, McGill ranked 21st in the world in the 2013 QS World University rankings and 35th globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2013-14.

The Maclean’s medical-doctoral category includes 15 Canadian universities with medical schools and a broad range of PhD programs. To access the full 2013 Maclean’s University Rankings, which hit newsstands and the Web today, go to http://oncampus.macleans.ca/education/
