On September 27, 2013 second-year medical students from McGill University participated in the “Donning the Healer’s Habit” ceremony, a McGill tradition since 2001, whereby students receive their white coat – a symbol of the professional responsibilities they will assume in their clinical life.
Dr. Dave Williams (BSc’76, MDCM/MSc’83, DSc’07), former Canadian astronaut and current CEO of Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario delivered the ceremony’s keynote address. Students were called up individually to receive their white coats, which was followed by a recital of a class oath in which they pledge allegiance to core values of the profession.
