I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Maxime Filion to the position of Director, Human Resources, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, effective today, August 21, 2017. Mr. Filion replaces Francis Desjardins who held this position from January 2016 until moving on to another senior position at McGill beginning July 2017.
Maxime Filion received his Licentiate in Laws from the University of Ottawa in 1988. He brings to McGill a wealth of experience accumulated over 25 years working in HR, including 15 in senior leadership positions. No stranger to the McGill community, Mr. Filion served two stints at the McGill University Health Centre, first as Human Resources Advisor from 1997 to 1999 and later as Human Resources Manager from 2000 to 2002. Between 2002 and 2016 he held the position of Director or Senior Director of Human Resources for Bell Globemedia, the Riverside School Board and Champlain College where he also served as Secretary General. He most recently served as Director of Human Resources for the Kativik Regional Government prior to joining McGill.
As Director, Human Resources, Mr. Filion will draw on his experience to lead the Faculty’s HR team, managing its day-to-day operations and assuming responsibility for all HR matters. Reporting to the undersigned, he will work closely with senior Faculty members, providing counsel that is aligned with the University’s and Faculty’s missions, priorities and policies and will provide coaching and guidance on all facets of HR to our Administrative Excellence Centres.
Mr. Filion will establish the Faculty’s HR strategies, policies and procedures and will work to communicate the HR vision across the Faculty, promoting a variety of initiatives to drive change. He will also develop and implement solutions to a wide-range of complex HR issues, including workforce planning, recruitment and retention of administrative and support staff, labour relations, employment law, training, compensation, succession planning, organizational development and teambuilding.
