For Dr. Yvonne Steinert, Director of the Centre for Medical Education and the Associate Dean for Faculty Development in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill, medical education offers her the opportunity to learn something new almost every day.
The field “gives me the chance to contribute to the training of future generations of healthcare professionals, and as a result, the well-being of patients and their families,” she explains.
Trained as a clinical psychologist, Steinert’s educational achievements have long been a part of her professional life and are now being recognized by the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME). The 2011 Ian Hart Award for Distinguished Contribution to Medical Education is being presented to Steinert, who credits her colleagues and friends at McGill for inspiring her accomplishments in the field.
“Medical education offers me an opportunity to be creative and innovative,” says Steinert. Her professional interests focus on teaching and learning, the professional development of faculty members, and the impact of faculty development on the individual and the organization.
