This week (November 26 – 29) the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) underwent a comprehensive inspection by Accreditation Canada, a not-for-profit, independent organization that assess the quality of services based on standards of excellence. Accreditation standards assess governance, risk management, leadership, infection prevention and control, communication, worklife and medication management, as well as required organizational practices and services in over 30 sectors, including:  oncology, medicine, surgery, critical care, mental health, obstetrics, palliative care, primary care, ambulatory care, emergency services, labs and blood banks, and diagnostic imaging.

Thursday morning marked the end of the JGH Accreditation review. During a conference to which all staff were invited, the Accreditation surveyors summarized their visit in an overwhelmingly positive fashion. The JGH was in compliance with over 96 per cent of the criteria set by Accreditation Canada.

Among the surveyor’s most impressive findings was that the JGH Emergency Department (ED) met and surpassed every single criterion in its evaluation; receiving a perfect score from Accreditation Canada.
