Jeannie Haggerty, PhD, Professor at the Department of Family Medicine and a researcher at St. Mary’s Research Centre, has been awarded the Médaille de la députée by the National Assembly of Quebec. This prestigious award recognizes her outstanding contributions to advancing patient- centered primary healthcare services across Quebec.
The Médaille d’honneur is one of the highest honours bestowed by the National Assembly of Quebec, acknowledging individuals who have distinguished themselves through exceptional career accomplishments and significant contributions to the public good. Since joining St. Mary’s Research Centre in 2010, Prof. Haggerty has led pioneering research that has fundamentally redefined how patient experiences are integrated into healthcare delivery. Her work has been instrumental in shaping patient-centered policies that ensure healthcare services are responsive, compassionate, and effective. Through the creation of essential frameworks and indicators, Prof. Haggerty has amplified the public’s voice in healthcare decision-making, particularly in areas affecting equitable access and quality of care. Her leadership extends beyond research; she has been a driving force in mentoring the next generation of healthcare researchers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in primary care.

About Dr. Jeannie Haggerty
Jeannie Haggerty, PhD, has devoted her career to enhancing primary healthcare services through innovative research and visionary leadership. As the first holder of the McGill Research Chair in Family and Community Medicine, her work has focused on integrating patient experiences into primary care services and developing measures for continuity of care from the patient’s perspective. Prior to joining McGill, she held academic positions at l’Université de Montréal and l’Université de Sherbrooke, where she held a Canada Research Chair.
Prof. Haggerty is the founding Scientific Director of the Réseau de connaissances sur les soins primaires du Québec (Réseau-1 Qc), a position she held from 2013 to 2024. She currently serves as Director of McGill’s Réseau de Recherche Axée sur les Pratiques de Première Ligne (RRAPPL). These networks have played a critical role in bridging the gap between research and practice, ensuring that healthcare improvements are informed by rigorous research and meaningful patient engagement.
