We regret to inform you that Augustine (Gus) Michael O’Gorman passed away unexpectedly on October 27, 2016. Survived by his first wife of 37 years Karin Austin, children Michael and Aisling, sisters Fidelma (Jim), Ethna and Dorothy, brothers Vincent and Ralph (Pauline), brothers and sister-in- law Peter (Helga), Nancy (Don), Erik (Leslie), and Chris (Rachel), many adored nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Born and reared in Salthill, Galway, Eire, he made Montréal his home for his remaining 47 years. Gus was a Paediatric Neuroradiologist and long-time Director of Radiology at The Montreal Children’s Hospital. His career spanned pneumoencephalography to CT to MRI. Gus was quite simply superb at what he did in this field with a keen eye to discerning radiologic features that aided the ability to make a correct diagnosis.
A self- described retirement failure, he continued to work part-time at Shriners Hospital, Westmount Square Medical Imaging, and The Children’s until his death. Ba Ghaeilgeoir bhródúil a thacaigh agus a chreid go láidir sa teanga agus sa chultúr Gaelach é Gus. A champion and staunch supporter of Irish Language and culture, he was past president of St. Patrick’s Society of Montréal. A passionate thespian, in recent years he enjoyed the taste of an amateur acting calling.
Funeral Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 2 p.m., Ascension of Our Lord 375 Kitchener Ave. Westmount, QC H3Z 2G1. Reception/wake/sesiún to follow at Irish Embassy Pub 1234 Rue Bishop, Montréal, QC H3G 2E3. If desired, donations can be made to either Canadian Irish Studies Foundation, Infinitheatre or Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation (for research).
Our deepest condolences go out to Dr. O’Gorman’s family and friends.
