We are pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Abrahams, MDCM, to the position of Associate Dean, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), McGill University, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, effective September 1, 2022. We take this opportunity to thank Miriam Boillat, MDCM, for serving as Interim Associate Dean from December 2021 to August 31, 2022.
After earning her medical degree from McGill, Dr. Abrahams joined the Herzl Family Practice Centre, Jewish General Hospital as a Staff Physician, where she has worked since 1996. Her responsibilities include providing patient care in the out-patient clinic (GMF-U) and the walk-in clinic (CRIU). She is also actively involved in clinical supervision of family medicine residents and medical students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill.
Throughout her career, she has played an active role on numerous committees to help advance learning and foster excellence in family practice. She is a long-term member of the scientific planning committee for the McGill Annual Refresher Course for Family Physicians, Department of Family Medicine, as well as a member and past Chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee, Department of Family Medicine, Jewish General Hospital.
An expert family physician as well as an educator, Dr. Abrahams joined McGill’s Department of Family Medicine as a Faculty Lecturer in 1996 and has since become an Assistant Professor within the department. From 2009-2019, Dr. Abrahams served as Postgraduate Education Site Program Director at the Herzl Family Practice Centre, one of McGill University’s largest Family Medicine residency training sites.
As Associate Dean, CPD, Dr. Abrahams will be responsible for ensuring that the CPD Office continues to support lifelong learning for physicians. She will work with the CPD team to maintain strong links with other education portfolios, stakeholders and the community of learners. Dr. Abrahams will chair the CPD Advisory Committee and the CPD Evaluation Committee, and will serve as a member of the Deanery Executive Committee and the Faculty Leadership Council, representing CPD’s interests.
