Alexandra Massicotte won a Collège des médecins du Québec award, while Julia Chabot and Geneviève Richer were finalists
Three members of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) were honoured by the Collège des médecins du Québec as part of their 4th annual Distinctions du Collège in April.
Alexandra Massicotte, MD, Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine, took the laurels in the Relève category. This prize celebrates engaged and innovative early career practitioners who make a marked contribution to their community.
Dr. Massicotte completed her residency in 2022 and helped establish the new Vaudreuil-Soulanges U-FMG the following year – which she calls her proudest moment in her career so far – taking up the reins as Unit Director. In addition to her clinical and supervisory duties, she has trained in at-home ultrasound for palliative care to help reduce hospitalizations, and set up training for the team in medical aid in dying. Julia Chabot, MDCM, Associate Professor, Division of Geriatric Medicine and Site Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital Center, was a finalist in the same category.
Dr. Chabot, a trained singer, combines her two passions by studying the therapeutic effects of music on hospitalized geriatric patients. At St. Mary’s, she helped establish a multidisciplinary geriatric team in the emergency department, significantly reducing length of stay and the number of hospital admissions, as well as creating a support space for caregivers. Family physician Geneviève Richer, MD, Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine and Director of Medical and Professional Services at Ste. Anne’s Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, was a finalist in the Humanisme category, which recognizes a physician who stands out for their humanistic and social commitment.
Dr. Richer has long cared for veterans, many of them centenarians, as well as patients with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities. She is also a longtime proponent of the right to die with dignity and served as Medical Director of the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence for 15 years. Read more about Dr. Richer here.
