As part of a larger story on researchers using crowdfunding for medical research appearing in the National Post, Dmitri Khartidi, a doctoral student in biochemistry at McGill talks about how his group has turned to the internet and the popular phenomenon of crowdfunding in an effort to raise money for their cancer research that looks to develop a test that can pinpoint the exact nature of a tumour, allowing doctors to precisely tailor therapy to each malignancy.

The article points out that this approach to raising funds in medicine is becoming increasingly more popular as funding becomes more difficult to come by through traditional channels of government agencies and industry.
