Dr. Regina Husa has been named Assistant Dean, Accreditation, Postgraduate Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University. Dr. Husa has been serving as Director of Accreditation, Postgraduate Medical Education since September 1, 2014.  She has been commended for demonstrating “exemplary” leadership in this role during the McGill Accreditation process in the recent institutional Internal Review.

This change in title reflects the evolving nature of the position and the increase in responsibilities since she first began serving as Director of Accreditation. The expectations of local and national accrediting bodies are becoming more stringent and the scope of work is much broader, requiring a continuous quality improvement role.

Dr. Husa has been at McGill since 1997. After receiving her MD from Memorial University, she completed residencies in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, as well as a fellowship in Echocardiography at McGill. She holds a Master of Education degree from Harvard University, where her studies focused on assessment and curriculum design as well as leadership in education. A cardiologist, Dr. Husa served for six years as Co-Director of McGill’s Adult Cardiology Residency Program. From 2006 to 2014, Dr. Husa was also Director of the Coronary Care Unit at the Jewish General Hospital. She is active in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate medical levels. Dr. Husa acts as an Accreditation Surveyor with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She is also an invited speaker at national as well as international conferences in the field of accreditation and the learning environment.

As Assistant Dean, Accreditation, Postgraduate Medical Education, Dr. Husa will be responsible for directing the accreditation of all McGill postgraduate medical training programs; she will also oversee accreditation of Postgraduate Medical Education at an institutional level, helping to ensure compliance with the standards set by the Canadian Residency Accreditation Consortium, including Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the College of Family Physicians Canada as well as the Collège des médecins du Québec.

Congratulations Dr. Husa!
