The Graham Boeckh Foundation is thrilled to announce that the fourth annual Dr. Samarthji Lal award for mental health research has been awarded to Gustavo Turecki, MD, PhD, Professor and Vice-Chair, Research and Academic Affairs, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University; Director, McGill Group for Suicide Studies; Head, Depressive Disorders Program, Douglas Mental Health Institute.
The Dr. Samarthji Lal Award recognizes a Canadian researcher who is mid-career and making an outstanding contribution to the field of psychiatry, with a focus on major mental disorders. The recipient is selected through an open, Canada-wide competition judged by an independent review panel of internationally renowned researchers. The panel was impressed by Dr. Turecki’s innovative, out-of-the-box approach to research on suicide.
