Evelyn Constantin croppedWe are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Evelyn Constantin to the newly created position of Assistant Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), Faculty of Medicine, McGill University. Reporting to the Associate Dean, PGME, this appointment came into effect February 29, 2016.

As Assistant Dean, Dr. Constantin will oversee the implementation of PGME’s competency-based medical education. She will conduct a thorough review of the current status of teaching of CanMEDS roles and make the necessary changes to improve the effectiveness of the teaching of these roles across all specialties at McGill teaching sites. She will review both program and resident needs on an annual basis and make adjustments as necessary. Working with the Associate Dean, PGME, she will assure the delivery, deployment and evaluation of relevant educational resources to program directors. She will also engage in scholarly activities around PGME-relevant topics, including conducting her own research related to PGME education. Dr. Constantin will be asked to chair and participate as a member in various PGME-related committees and activities.

An Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty, Dr. Constantin has been Co-Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at McGill since 2014. In that role, she has served as Co-Chair of several committees, including the Pediatric Residency Training Committee, the Advanced Pediatrics Training Committee and the Residency Selection Committee. She also has been Chair of the Organizing and Scientific Committee for the annual Resident and Fellow Research Symposium. A two-time McGill graduate, she received her MDCM in 2000 and her MSc in Epidemiology in 2009. She completed her residency training at the University of Ottawa and McGill, which was followed by an academic general pediatrics Fellowship and a clinical and research Fellowship in Pediatric Sleep Medicine. She is currently Co-Director of the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at the MUHC. Since 2010, she has been Director of a novel two-year pediatric research methodology course she developed (PHRESCA: Pediatric Health Research Epidemiology Statistics CurriculA) that is offered widely at McGill/MUHC. Since 2013, she has been the Curriculum Director of the National Executive Committee of the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program.

Dr. Constantin has a keen interest in pediatric research with a particular focus on sleep and sleep disorders. She is Director of the Pediatric component of the Sleep Research Laboratory at the RI-MUHC/Montreal Children’s Hospital. She has been awarded internal and external research grants for her sleep research program and has a productive publication track record. She supervises research trainees at all levels (undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral). She is currently involved in medical education research, specifically related to postgraduate medical education.

Dr. Constantin is a Member of the Society of Pediatric Research and an invited speaker to an array of conferences around the world. In 2012 she was named to the Faculty Honour list for Educational Excellence in recognition of her contribution to teaching at the Faculty of Medicine.
