Dear members of the McGill community:

I am pleased to announce the re-appointment of Dr. David Eidelman as Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Eidelman’s second five-year term begins on July 1, 2017. McGill’s Board of Governors approved the appointment during the closed session of its meeting on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

Following a review of Dr. Eidelman’s performance and contributions during his first term, the Advisory Committee for the Possible Reappointment of the Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine unanimously approved his second term. Dr. Eidelman is a McGill graduate and has previously held positions as the Chair of the University’s Department of Medicine, the Director of its Division of Respiratory Diseases, and Physician-in-Chief at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). His leadership, together with his clinical and research skills, has been essential in the planning and support of the Faculty’s programs that prepare students for their roles as health care providers and scientists in the 21st century. These initiatives include a new MDCM curriculum and renewed MD-PhD program, as well as a new strategic research plan that helped to attract major funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. Among his accomplishments, he has strengthened the Faculty’s governance and management, while steering its undergraduate medical program through a challenging accreditation cycle. With his team, he also recently secured government funding for an operation plan to create a satellite medical campus in Outaouais, building on 30 years of partnership in the region.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Eidelman!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Fortier

Principal and Vice-Chancellor
