Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to share the news that our colleague Dr. Jim Gourdon, Director of the Comparative Medicine and Animal Resources Centre (CMARC), is stepping down from his position to make way for new leadership, effective November 6, 2020. McGill’s Dr. Julie Chevrette has graciously accepted to assume the position of Chief Veterinarian on an interim basis in place of Dr. Gourdon, who has led CMARC with great commitment for 14 years.
As Director, Dr. Gourdon brought his considerable expertise in veterinary science to bear on the University’s animal facilities, including technical, diagnostic and imaging services. In addition to his responsibilities managing CMARC on a day-to-day basis, Dr. Gourdon led with distinction the development and management of the Life Sciences Complex’s state-of-the-art animal facilities. He developed unique resources for research in neuroscience and cognitive neuroscience, integrated high-level biosafety laboratories in CMARC for research with certain human pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, and modernized procedures associated with animal research, ensuring impeccable regulatory compliance.
Dr. Gourdon’s support to McGill’s research community has been exceptional and deeply appreciated in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, at MacDonald Campus and in other McGill research communities across the University. We are grateful for his many contributions.
Please join us in wishing Dr. Gourdon the best of success in this next leg of his career. We take this opportunity to also thank Dr. Chevrette and her colleagues for supporting CMARC and our research community, while the formal search for Dr. Gourdon’s successor is underway.
