As this year comes to a close, we take this opportunity to salute all of those in the Department of Family Medicine who have been honoured with awards and prizes.
Dr. Ann Macaulay is a 2014 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Honorary Fellow recipient.
Since 1933, the Royal College has invited exceptional physicians, surgeons and laypersons to become Honorary Fellows. Honorary Fellowship recognizes outstanding performance or contributions in a particular vocation by individuals who are not eligible for Royal College Fellowship.

Created in 2013, the prize is awarded to a resident or a student who demonstrated their leadership skills.

Dr. Halan Balendra, Dr. Paul Brisebois, Dr. Patrick Moynihan and Dr. Robin Nathanson are the resident and medical student College of Family Physicians of Canada 2014 award recipients.
The Honours and Awards Program offers grants, scholarships and awards to recognize, and support family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students committed to education, research, and excellence in the practice of family medicine.

This award, which entails a contribution made to outstanding candidates that are conducting independent research, will go towards Dr. Vedel’s project on Alzheimer’s disease.

The prize was established in 2006 by David Altshuler and the Altshuler family, in honour of his father, John Altshuler, BSc ’55, MDCM ’59. This prize is awarded annually by the Faculty of Medicine to a graduating medical student with the highest mark in the family medicine clerkship.

This award acknowledges outstanding contributions by members of the administrative and support staff of the University for service to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

The goal of the Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence is to recognize outstanding contributions to education in the Faculty of Medicine, in the areas of teaching, educational leadership and innovation, faculty development, and research and scholarly activity.

Created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, this commemorative medal served to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
