Dear Colleagues,

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure inclusive and transparent Faculty governance, we are currently seeking members from the Faculty of Medicine for the Widening Participation Committee (WPC), mandated by the Office of Social Accountability and Community Engagement.

Four Faculty of Medicine members are being sought, as presented below. Terms are three years, renewable once. Meetings are held four times a year for two hours. Efforts will be made to accommodate members at a distance through teleconferencing.

All nominations must be submitted online and include a few sentences describing the nominee’s interest and the contributions one believes they would bring to the committee. Submissions will be reviewed by the Faculty Council Nominating Committee, which in turn will make recommendations to the Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of Medicine, David Eidelman.

Please note that the deadline for submissions is Sunday, October 14, 2018. Should you have questions about the nominating procedure, please do not hesitate to contact Demetra Kafantaris at demetra.kafantaris@mcgill.ca.

The Widening Participation Committee is mandated by the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Social Accountability and Community Engagement to develop, implement, and monitor programs and initiatives aimed at increasing the participation of under-represented populations in the application processes of McGill’s health professional programs. The Committee shall make recommendations regarding best practices for promoting diversity, equity and inclusiveness in student recruitment, including the dismantling of unnecessary barriers to health professional education and training.

The full Terms of Reference for the WPC is accessible online.

Members will be expected to advise and lend their perspectives to discussions about equity and diversity issues within the Faculty of Medicine, which may include participating in widening participation and health outreach programs development.
