The Medical Students’ Society, the Communication Sciences and Disorders Community Service Team, and the Student Interest Group in Neurology is hosting a unique performance by Théâtre Aphasique. This non-profit organization works with persons with aphasia, using the performing arts to target rehabilitation and social reintegration. Some Frenzy Killing Games is an adaptation of three plays by Eugène Ionesco presented in a bilingual format. It depicts a community struck by a strange epidemic which drives into isolation those who are infected and those suspected of harbouring infection. This project is of importance to future professionals in rehabilitative and medical occupations, as it highlights the language difficulties, physical, and psychological realities faced by persons with aphasia. Following the performance, there will be an open discussion with the troupe which we hope will shed further light on these issues.
A secondary aim of this event is to promote communication and interaction between departments. Students from Medicine, Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders, OT, and PT have been invited. Refreshments and baked goods will be available for purchase and proceeds will go towards Théâtre Aphasique. We hope to see you all at this extremely worthwhile event!
