I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Luana Sorella as the Associate Director of Administration for Medical Educational Services, effective July 6, 2015.
Luana joined the Faculty of Medicine on January 19, 2015, originally in the position of Project Manager to lead a comprehensive process review for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education operations. In her new position, Luana will continue to report directly to the undersigned, as she carries out her mandate to lead and improve the administrative operations of the Medical Educational Services unit, composed of: Undergraduate Medical Education, Postgraduate Medical Education, the Medwell Office, Rural Medical Education, Systems and Administration. In addition, Luana will extend her expertise and support to the teams working in Continuing Professional Development, the Centre for Medical Education and Faculty Development.
Melissa Knock, Manager of Medical Education Services, will continue to focus her expertise on the daily operations of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education units.
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the Faculty of Medicine’s administrative support, this fall we will also introduce Administrative Excellence Centre (AEC) services related to human resources and finance to all units named above.
Prior to her appointment with the Faculty of Medicine, Luana served as Manager, Transaction Services, within Financial Services at McGill. In this role, she was instrumental in the implementation of Accounts Payable Link and eSettlement, as well as internal controls for banking services. She also structured various reorganizations within the unit and was a subject matter expert for several Requests for Proposal, while also participating in the development of the Travel Management Program. Before joining McGill, Luana worked in managerial roles within the banking industry. She is a graduate of Concordia University, where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
