Geoffroy NoelWe are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Geoffroy Noel to the position of Director, Division of Anatomical Sciences, Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology, effective April 15, 2014. This is a newly created division within the Department, designed to address the expanding and diverse demands on services provided within the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as external to McGill.

Dr. Noel is no stranger to McGill. After having received his PhD from the University of British Columbia,he returned to Montreal in the position of lecturer within the Department from 2010 to 2012. Dr. Noel now returns to us from his tenure track position in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences, University of British Columbia.

As Director, Dr. Noel will be responsible for curriculum development and exploring new pedagogical techniques, as well as coordination and management of all anatomy labs and lectures. He will also liaise between the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, the Simulation Centre and McGill’s accredited professional health programs (Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Communication Sciences and Disorders). Additionally, Dr. Noel will continue to build on community outreach initiatives, with emphasis on school and community groups.

Dr. Noel’s interests are directed toward implementing inter-professional education, as well as imaging within anatomy/surgical electives and designing 3D digital models/haptic simulations to train future physicians in non-invasive exploration of the human body and anatomical variations in new surgical approaches.

Distinctions include: the Dental Hygiene Degree Program Teaching Award (Faculty of Dentistry, University of British Columbia), Dr. Laura G. Jasch Memorial Prize (UBC), Edward Squires Memorial Scholarship (UBC), University Graduate Fellowship (UBC) and Honour Award-Studentship (Ministère de l’Education Nationale de l’Enseignement Supérieure et de la Recherche, France).
