Peter Metrakos, Rima Slim and Don Vinh are among 12 Quebec researchers funded through the Genomics Integration Program in Human Health to advance precision medicine
Three researchers from McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) and the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (The Institute) have been awarded funding through Génome Québec’s fifth Genomics Integration Program in Human Health, which is investing over $4.3 million in 12 innovative projects across Quebec to advance genomic solutions in precision medicine.
The FMHS recipients are:
- Peter Metrakos, MD, in partnership with Roche Diagnostics, for a project using digital PCR to improve care for colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases. Dr. Metrakos is Professor, Department of Surgery, McGill University, and Senior Scientist in the Cancer Research Program at The Institute.
- Rima Slim, PhD, in partnership with OPTILAB MUHC, for a precision medicine approach to the genomic diagnosis of female infertility. Prof. Slim is Professor, Department of Human Genetics, McGill University, and Senior Scientist in the Child Health and Human Development Program at The Institute.
- Donald C. Vinh, MD, in partnership with Illumina, for a pilot study using long-read whole genome sequencing to improve rare disease diagnosis. Dr. Vinh is Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, McGill University, and Senior Scientist in the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program at The Institute.
The Genomics Integration Program in Human Health supports proof-of-concept projects that bring together academic researchers and user partners to accelerate the integration or commercialization of genomics-based innovations in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
