Dear members of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences,
Antisemitic graffiti was recently discovered in two Faculty buildings. The University reported the graffiti to Montreal police as a possible violation of the Criminal Code, and an investigation is currently underway. In addition to any legal avenues, if the person responsible is identified as a member of the McGill community, we will immediately begin disciplinary proceedings.
We are working in close collaboration with McGill’s Chief Security Officer and Security Services, who have put appropriate security measures in place. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Acts such as these are an affront to us all. Particularly, we recognize the distress that these types of disturbing acts cause for so many Jewish members of the Faculty and University. Our FMHS values include our commitment to humanism, which we define as respecting the value and dignity of every individual across the diversity of our academic community and the communities we serve. The University embraces the principles of academic freedom, integrity, responsibility, equity, and inclusiveness.
All students, faculty, and administrative and support staff must be able to carry out their activities free from threats to their safety and dignity. As importantly, we all deserve an environment where we feel welcomed in all our diversity, where we belong, where we work together to fulfill our academic mission.

Any new graffiti, suspicious activity or possible criminal offences on campus should be immediately reported to McGill Security Services at 514-398-3000. As well, incidents of discrimination or harassment can be reported through the following ways:
- Learners can report mistreatment through the Office for Respectful Environments in the Faculty. Reports can be made anonymously.
- McGill employees can report harassment or discrimination (as described in the Policy on Harassment and Discrimination) through the Office for Mediation and Reporting.
By supporting one another and living our shared values, we can together foster an environment where every member of our Faculty and University feels safe, respected, and included.
