The 2026 Osler Awards for Outstanding Teaching have been presented to Caroline Massicotte, MD, and Tiina Podymow, MD. Both recipients were celebrated by their colleagues and former students as part of the Health Sciences A Spring Convocation Ceremony on May 26.
The awards are bestowed upon professors in the Faculty who, in the opinion of senior medical students, have made the most outstanding contribution to their medical education. Every year, two educators from each of the Faculty’s campuses – Montreal and Outaouais – are selected to receive the honour.
Dr. Massicotte is an Outaouais family doctor and Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine, as well as Course Co-Director of the first year medicine course From molecules to global health (Block A) at Campus Outaouais.
Dr. Podymow specializes in obstetric nephrology and is Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Nephrology at the Montreal campus.
Dr. Massicotte, who was not able to attend the Convocation Ceremony, said she was “touched and honoured” to receive the Osler Award for Campus Outaouais.
“This recognition brings a lot of feelings of gratitude and humility. The fact that the students acknowledge the quality of my contributions to their education is especially meaningful to me. It motivates me to keep improving as a teacher and to continue to be attentive to their needs,” she said.
“This award reinforces that teaching is, above all, a human relationship and a team effort, built day by day with them.”
Dr. Podymow learned she had received the award for the Montreal campus via email while attending a nephrology conference in Japan.
“When I saw “Congratulations” in the subject line, I had to reread the message a few times, and sort of floated out of my seat,” she recalled.
“I love teaching renal physiology and I feel so honoured to receive the Osler Award,” she added. “When people ask me what McGill med students are like these days, I say that they are so kind, smart and responsible; to work with them later in the hospital is a joy. The future of medicine is bright; we are in good hands.”
