For the third consecutive year, McGill welcomed future doctors from all over the world to learn, connect, and experience Montreal’s vibrant culture as part of its Summer Program for International Medical Students.
“This program delivered an unforgettable blend of education, innovation, and global connection,” observed program graduate Sana Ahmed, a final-year medical student at Dubai Medical University, adding she recommends it to “any medical student seeking to learn, grow, and thrive in one of the most iconic academic environments.”
The three-week program took place in Montreal from July 14 to August 1, 2025 and welcomed 38 students from 11 universities in nine countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Participants like Sana engaged in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical learning opportunities. These included lectures delivered by physicians, case-based workshops led primarily by residents, hands-on simulations, and practical training sessions. Students also benefited from two-day observerships at McGill teaching hospitals, offering valuable exposure to real-world medical practice. In addition, they explored career pathways at McGill, including residency and fellowship training options. Beyond the academic component, students had the chance to explore Montreal through a variety of organized activities
“This year’s summer program highlighted the strengths of medical education at McGill to a group of talented and aspiring physicians from around the world,” said Sender Liberman, MDCM, Assistant Dean, International Affairs, and Chair of the Summer Program Committee. “A special thanks to the devoted McGill faculty members who instructed them during their time in Montreal.”
A record number of countries were represented at the 2025 edition, noted program director and Assistant Professor of Diagnotic Radiology Fadi Habbab, MDCM. “This underscores the success of the program and motivates us to further expand our global footprint going forward,” he said.
The program graduation ceremony included distinguished guests from participating countries, including Her Excellency Amal Almoalimi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Canada; His Excellency Dr. Khalid Rashid Al-Mansouri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Canada; Mr. Ali Alastad, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to Canada; and Ms. Aalya Al Shehhi, Counsellor at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to Canada.
