2026 McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Clinical Innovation Competition
Inspired by Dr. Raymond Hakim, the vision behind the McGill Clinical Innovation Competition (CLIC) is to encourage members of our Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences community to conceive and develop promising ideas that will have a direct and positive impact on Canadian and/or global healthcare.
Now in its ninth year, we are grateful to our generous donors for sponsoring the prizes below, which consist of a monetary award, services and credits to support the development of proof of concept and preparation for commercialization or implementation:
- The Hakim Family Innovation Prize recognizes ideas, new processes or devices in healthcare with potential to have a tangible and meaningful impact on the patients entrusted to our care.
- The Marika Zelenka Roy Innovation Prize, launched in partnership with the Montreal General Hospital Foundation, recognizes the best solution to an unmet clinical need for the care of a patient, with the highest likelihood of successful translation into practice.
- The Marika Zelenka Roy Simnovation prize recognizes an innovation that improves patient safety/quality, or addresses an unmet clinical need, through simulation.
- The Smart & Biggar Innovation Prize recognizes the clinical innovation that has the greatest promise for a commercial value proposition.
- The Raab Student Innovation Prize recognizes the best student led innovation in healthcare.
The competition is open to members of all faculties at McGill University and all members of the McGill affiliated health network.
Proposals submitted to the McGill CLIC will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and finalists will be selected to “pitch” their ideas during the CLIC event to be held in person on May 20, 2026.

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering online training exclusive to all CLIC applicants. A series of five 90-minute preparatory workshops will take place on Fridays at noon from January 30 to February 27, 2026 and will focus on the fundamentals of preparing a business plan and explaining intellectual property and regulatory affairs. Facilitated by leading experts, these workshops will provide you with the tools and knowledge to enhance the commercial viability of your plan. All CLIC applicants are strongly encouraged to register for these free workshops.
